Fabulously “Green” Wedding Ideas

There are many ways to minimize the environmental impact of your wedding, while still being budget conscious and not sacrificing style.  From planning, to the big day, here are a few tips that can help you make some eco-friendly decisions.

Planning

  • Using local vendors will not only help support your local economy, but it can also help reduce carbon emissions!  Not to mention, using a caterer who utilizes organic ingredients can help make sure your food is tasty and something to feel good about eating!
  • Utilizing recycled paper for invitations, or a wedding web page can also help to cut down on paper usage and waste!
  • Purchasing a pre-loved wedding dress, recycled gold rings, and fair-labor gemstones are also great decisions that can ensure your wedding is more environmentally conscious.

Ceremony

  • By utilizing local farmers markets, or a local organic florist, you can have fresh, beautiful flowers, while supporting your local economy and reducing carbon emissions.  After the ceremony, you can even donate the floral arrangements to hospitals, retirement centers, or let the guests take them home as wedding favors!
  • Choose an outdoor location to have your ceremony, such as a park, garden, or beach!  Having a natural background to frame your special day is a great way to highlight how beautiful our planet is!

Reception

  • Encourage guests to carpool in order to reduce the carbon footprint of your special day. Or you can hold your ceremony and reception in the same place, which will help to decrease fuel emissions.
  • Do not use disposable linens or dishware!  Renting or buying these items can really help in making your special day much more environmentally friendly.
